Powder Coating is a dry coating that is usually applied to bare metal electrostatically. The powder has a very fine consistency like that of baby powder. It is blown through a special electrically charged gun with compressed air at a low pressure. The gun can be charged from 10K to 100K Volts, which gives then passes the charge onto the powder particles. The pieces to be coated are negatively grounded. This creates a very strong direct attraction. This means an even and consistent coat every time. This also means less wasted overspray making the process very efficient. After the part is covered with the powder particles, it is baked in an oven at around 400°F for a certain amount of time. The powder melts into an extremely durable plastic coating. To keep finished pieces looking fresh, just clean with soap and water. No need for waxing and buffing!
